Clean air is essential for a comfortable and healthy life. Unpleasant odors occur in various places such as industries, agriculture and wastewater treatment plants.
These odors can be removed by biofiltration. Biofiltration is the biological process of purifying air using microorganisms found on a solid support. The principle of operation is based on biodegradation, by passing air through a biofilter, microorganisms convert pollutants into CO2 and water.
Filtralite® Air is a high-quality filter medium, made of expanded clay, which is used for biofiltration and air purification, ie removal of unpleasant odors.
Figure 1. Filtering fillets with different granulations
Fill Filtralite®, with its very porous structure and large specific surface area, allows a large surface area for the growth of microorganisms required for biological filtration. Good biofilm storage capacity and excellent throughput result in low pressure drop and long service life which means reduced operating costs. The porous structure absorbs and retains water like a tank that facilitates water leakage. Filtralite Air Fill® has a sorption capacity according to H2With and other odors, so the filter will begin to remove odor even before the biofilm is established
Figure 2. Filtralite® filling section 10-20 mm
Thanks to the stable ceramic structure there is no disintegration of the filling nor is there a possibility of collapse. Light weight allows for easier maneuvering and replacement.
Depending on the needs, different granules of biofill, 2-4, 4-10 and 10-20 mm are used.
BIO-FULL EFFICIENCY TESTING:
Based on Filtralite filling evaluation® 10-20 mm in relation to conventional fillings, carried out at the University of Valladolid, Spain, the results of the filling performance were obtained:
- H2S was removed in a percentage greater than 90%
- toluene more than 99%
- mercaptans from 28-42%
Filtralite® Air is a new generation of biofilling that has excellent efficiency in air purification. High efficiency in removing unpleasant odors allows a wide possibility of using the filling, and its longevity ensures low investment costs and therefore this filling is an excellent and safe investment.
